- Keeping our community safe
Ensuring the safety of our residents, especially our keiki and kūpuna, is one of my top priorities. Recent increases in crime around the island demand immediate action. Due to the shortage of law enforcement, I believe empowering the community will go a long way in helping keep the community safe.
To further strengthen our community bonds, I propose holding more free public events. These gatherings will provide opportunities for residents to meet, build relationships, and cultivate a sense of true community. I would also like to work with the Neighborhood Watch to increase awareness and participation. Together, we can create a safer, more connected environment for everyone. - Infrastructure upkeep
The persistent problems of potholes and overgrown canals are evident across the island, but particularly severe in our community. These issues not only cause inconvenience but also pose serious dangers, including flooding and vehicular damage. To address this, I will collaborate with the appropriate parties to develop a preventative maintenance plan, emphasizing early intervention to manage these problems more efficiently and cost-effectively.
Additionally, I will advocate for studies on the use of Rubberized Asphalt as a cost-effective alternative to traditional asphalt. By exploring innovative solutions and prioritizing maintenance, we can enhance the safety and longevity of our community’s infrastructure. - Sustainable living
Ensuring access to food and clean water is fundamental to life. To promote sustainable living, we must focus on enhancing local agriculture. Establishing community gardens and planting fruit trees is a great start to fostering self-sufficiency and resilience. We must promote local farming and reduce the need for importing food.
Furthermore, I will push for the removal of the General Excise Tax on food and medicine, making essential items more affordable for our residents. Through these measures, we can build a more sustainable and self-reliant community.
I believe these initiatives can be swiftly addressed. I will be canvassing our district for community input on issues as well. The concerns of the people should be the number one priority.
